For the upcoming auction, we will carry on promoting the pioneering and novel contemporary art, recognizing the traditional art, and exploring the international art. As always, we will further enhance our academic and topic features by combing the history of Chinese contemporary art. In the academism, we are honored to introduce “New English Calligraphy – The Poem of Dylan Thomas” (69×775cm) by the famous Chinese contemporary artist Xu Bing. As the longest work of Xu for the auction, it is a 7-meter stroll, which is dedicated to the victims of Chinese 512 Earthquake. It is particularly precious for its meaning behind. Xu Bing is good at creating art by “words”. He takes different cultural contexts and historical resources as background to explore the deep relationship between art and society. The huge sculpture “Artificial Rock No.116” (342×173×120 cm) by Zhan Wang is another work we highly recommend. Zhan Wang is the inventor who extends the meaning of Chinese artificial rocks as the element applied in contemporary art. In our last auction, it was very impressive that Zhan’s “Artificial Rock” archived the highest domestic auction record. In the rareness, “Rouge Series”, created by Avant-garde artist Li Shan during 1989-1998, were artist’s first group artworks after ’89 China Contemporary Art Exhibition. Later “Rouge Series” participated in the 43rd Venice Biennale, since when the Chinese artists started to stand on the international stage. Li’s “Rouge Series” also initiated the combination of surrealism and visual experiment in Chinese contemporary art. Meanwhile, Li Shan’s another work from his “Reading Series” will be auctioned. Since this series, the artist has been exploring in biological concept to “misread” and interpret the painting, revitalizing the creatures. Moreover, Shang Yang’s oil painting “Young Woman” was made in 1979 before he furthered his graduate study. This work very is rare and precious for its refined quality and excellent preservation. Meanwhile, Shang Yang’s large painting “Planned by Dong Qichang-10” is also of great investment value. “The Memory of Dadu River” is a scare early work by Jia Difei, the professor of CAFA, to describe the Marshal Peng Dehuai leading the Red Army to cross the Yangtze River. Jia is considered as a significant artist among his peer. In the early time, this work was planned to be collected by an art museum, but the artist declined. Now, we recommend this piece worth your expectation. In addition, we are promoting Huang Rui’s “CHAI-NA/CHINA” and “Longevity and Immortality” without reserve. Huang Rui is one of the founders of “Stars Group”. As one of the crucial creators and promoters for 798 Art Zone, Huang sticks to his position and stance of an avant-garde artist and his works receive great attention in the field of Chinese contemporary art. In the representativeness, “Imitating Gao Qipei – Mountains in Sight” by the cynical realistic artist Fang Lijun is the representative work from Fang’s “Magical Realism” solo exhibition in Shanghai in 2009. In the painting, the artist overlooks the earth in the perspective of an infant, emphasizing the humanistic care with his particular sense of humor. “Appearance of Crosses 2007-5” is a typical work by Shanghai abstract artist Ding Yi. The work is large, measured 2.8×2 meters. Maintaining the high self-discipline and conscientiousness, Ding develops his “crosses” in a rich way. Sun Liang’s “Red Panther” is a spiritual experience of the artist, which explores to combine the human and animal in a non-background space. Zhou Chunya’s recent work “Peach Blossom” is no doubt another spotlight for this time because it was just finished in 2010, very rarely seen in the market. As one of a small number of contemporary artists going global and favored by academia and market, Zhou’s artworks are of great collection value. Liu Wei’s “The Waste Land”, once attended ARCO art fair in Spain, shows both the qualities of eastern and western cultures. His works integrate western painting skills with eastern literati spirits. Jiao Xingtao’s representative “Story Series – Hermes” shows the artist’s focus on the abandoned objects. The sculpture faces the cultural problem and contemporary living space, re-moulding the relationship between sculpture and human. Jiao’s another piece “Can Not Arrive” is an extraordinary work in his “Story Series”. Taking Wenchuan Earthquake as the background, Jiao tries to express his complicated feeling toward the Earthquake in the form of “rescue relief items”. Furthermore, we will also have Luo Zhongli’s “Combing”, Ye Yongqing’s “One of the Nine Birdcages in Winter”, Yu Hong’s “Us Two – Yu Hong and Zhao Bo No.2”, and etc. With our successful introduction of performance and conceptual artworks in 09 Autumn Auction, this time we will have the silkscreen “Soft-Hard Kungfu”(16 Pieces) by outstanding Chinese performance artist Zhang Huan in 2005. Also, Xiao Lu’s performance photography and video “Sperm” is worth attention. Hosane not only pays attention to the contemporary, but also emphasizes the importance of the traditional. The early classic oil paintings are proved to be both artistically and historically valuable. In our classic oil painting & sculpture section, we will introduce Wu Guang Zhong’s “Xi Shuang Ban Na Village”, which is an authentic oil painting made in 1994 and was published in “Wu Guangzhong’s Works Collection” ,“The Selection Works of Chinese Contemporary Art – Wu Guanghzong”and "The Works Collection of Wu Guanzhong". “Xihai Park of Dalian” made by Wu Zuoren in 1954 is a very scarce piece in the art market. This oil painting was once auctioned as catalogue cover by China Guardian Auction Company. Two of San Yu’s human figure sketches are the rare authentic works of the artist’s early creation. San’s exquisite command of body line gained him the title of “Eastern Matisse”. Zhang Chongren’s bronze sculpture “Clear Stream” was made in elegant shape, and this work is regarded as the earliest Chinese human figure sculpture of western classic beauty. Also, there are “Old House of Shanghai” and “Spring” by the famous Chinese oil painter and fine arts educator Yan Wenliang. “Scenery of Tanjiang” by Chinese oil painting forerunner Zhou Bichu well displayed the Chinese landscape in classical realism on the canvas. Apart from those works, we will recommend Guan Zilan’s early watercolor on paper “Daffodil” and a scare portrait sketch on paper. Plus, “Welcome the Spring” made with color and ink on paper by Xiao Shufang is also an appealing work of elegant and fresh style. Hosane 2010 Spring Auction is making a bold attempt by being the first auction house in China to introduce the contemporary design artworks. We are aiming at broadening the market of contemporary design, and we regard this is the optimum time. In this part, we highly recommend the design work created by Chinese contemporary artist Shao Fan, who traces and develops the essence of the Chinese furniture of Ming and Qing Dynasties. In "Breeze-ruffled Lotus at Quyuan Garden", the artist disassembled a chair of Ming Dynasty, which erased the old appearance of a chair and the original function of the medium, but presented us a totally different pattern with brand-new meaning. World famous artist Tony Brown's "Aero Stream" was inspired by the American camping trailer and airline first-class seat of the 50s and 60s. The artist gave considerations to both the function and the appearance of the work. Chinese artist Li Jiwei had been stayed and travelled in Austria and Germany. Li is found of transparent, half-transparent, and light-reflective PC material. "Concept Chair" for this time shows the perfect combination of art and technology. Shi Jianmin's "Prayer Beads in Buddha's Hand" borrowed stainless steel as material and Taihu stones as shape to build the symbol image of a "chair" through multiple procedures such as forging, wielding and polishing. Design MVW's "Cheongsam Chair" applied silk for covering, slim and gentle, as delicate as a fine quality cheongsam. Just like cheongsam, the work expresses the intimate relations between object and human body. Also for this season we will introduce some contemporary ceramic artworks. "Letters" is made of china clay by American contemporary ceramic artist Sylvia Hyman. The artist took letter and carton, the most familiar commodities in our life, as the subjects. Her works are like 3D still life paintings, building a comfortable and leisurely sense of life. "Ashtrays" by Chinese artist Xie Dong is a set of two bone china ashtrays which reminds us of the harm of smoking. The artist displays the beauty of the object in her special female perspective. She used bone china to fully present the transparent beauty of the work in its very natural state, which is of great sense of fashion and design. Chinese American artist Zhou Guangzhen is a member of UNESCO International Academy of Ceramics and the founder of Chinese Ceramic Art Council in USA. His recent work "Enamel Age - Shanghai - Washing" integrates various methods as his art language such as nostalgia, realism, surrealism, conceptualism, mixed media, installation art, criticism and anti-tradition.
